I have spent my career curating a refined understanding of how architecture can respond meaningfully to the challenges of a changing climate. My work sits at the intersection of responsible design, systems thinking, physics, feelings, and the experience of place .
As the Americas Head of Sustainability at Populous, I led efforts to develop research-driven strategies that scale across building types and regions, helping teams navigate complex decisions with clarity and purpose. As the global director of sustainability at Gensler, I founded and led the Climate Action & Sustainability Practice Area. What began as a small group grew into a global team of nearly 100 professionals, each working to integrate sustainable thinking into design across markets. Along the way, I co-authored more than a half dozen Impact by Design publications for the firm, focusing on how ideas can live beyond a single project and help shape the systems that follow.
At my core, I care about how things work and how they feel. That dual focus, both technical and emotional, is what informs my writing, my design work, and the way I lead. I am not just trying to get things done. I am trying to make the right things happen, and I want others to feel equipped to do the same. Whether I am guiding a city ride for mental health, designing a certification framework for sustainable events, or walking someone through climate data or contract language, I try to create tools that move people forward with confidence. That mindset has guided my contributions across more than 1 billion square feet of built work, each project offering an opportunity to scale climate strategy with purpose.
For several years I had the privilege of teaching passive design strategies as an adjunct professor at the USC School of Architecture. That experience reinforced something I’ve long believed: leadership is not only about vision, but about translation. It’s about making complex ideas feel accessible. In the classroom, as in practice, I focused on building trust as deliberately as I build tools. That meant inviting others into the process, curating context with care, and always asking how an idea would land with the person on the receiving end. Would a student understand it? Would a project manager feel supported? Could a stranger be moved to act?
I am a Fellow of both the American Institute of Architects and the U.S. Green Building Council. My portfolio spans a wide range of sectors, including offices, education, civic and cultural buildings, mixed-use developments, and large-scale sports and media venues. I also contribute to publications like Metropolis, where I continue to explore the role of architecture in shaping a more climate-conscious future.
Design is never just about the object. It is about the system, the story, and the people it touches. That belief shapes how I work, how I teach, and how I lead.
